Naomi Campell screams

April 5th 2009 19:42
Being a fashion queen that's been in the modeling game for I don't know, 2 decades, Naomi Campbell has came together with Tyson Beckford and Liya Kebede. They've joined forces to make worldwide awareness of racism in the fashion/modeling world. When I first read an article on this, I thought to myself, "hmm....actually, racism is still so everywhere!!" Not to say that we hav not came a long way as a nation and country. We have came universes away from the time of Dr. Martin Luther King. But we have still got a long way to go. I can say this not by being a bystander only, but because I am young and black in America. My name is a black cultured name. I've been discrimated against many times, I believe, while applying for jobs. So I totally understand where Naomi Campbell is coming from. I don't believe that most of my experienced racism was made consciously.

Plus, me being a fashionista, I often get tired of mostly seeing Caucasion models gracing the covers of magazines, billboards, cat walks, etc. I don't think that management in the fashion industry is aware of their unseen racism, but I do believe it is true and exist. I am glad that she has enough courage to make it be know. I am glad that she is not afraid of losing her popularity and fame in the modeling world. I would love to see more African American models and fashion rep's join forces with Naomi in support of her cause and what she is trying to do. I am not seeking to see more of Blacks only in the fashion world, but all cultures, Latino, etc. We are a country built on different races and nationalities. Every area of business and arts should equally represent this. Our government, such as congress and senate should represent this. Do you know how many senators are black? I think that Barak Obama was either the only one or one of two. I feel this is down right ridiculous.

But in all fairness, I do believe that every race has a little racism in it. I think we as humans are uncomfortable with the unfamiliar. If you are brought up in a all black community, went to all black school, etc., once you enter into adult world, you might be uncomfortable around hispanics or caucasians. Likewise for caucasions and hispanics. This is why, if possible, we as parents should make sure our children experience and be a part of different cultures so that we are more tolerant of others. I am so grateful that my parents exposed me to different cultures. I went to a well balanced high school and I currently attend a equally balanced church. My pastor is White, his associate ministers is Black and Hispanic.
Let's experience the rainbow people!!

I ask this question today because nearly every young child strive's to be like Lindsey Lohan or Paris Hilton or Rhianna, if you get my drift. Stardom and fame are their goals to try to attain. Reason being, popularity, gold, glitz, power, money, fame, red carpets, etc. It's nothing wrong with dreaming or desiring to be successful and comfortable, but at what cost I ask? Often, there is a great cost to be paid. Cost such as paparazzi, tabloids, disfunctional love life, open book life, fake wanna be friends, not knowing who your true friends are, snakes in suits(exec's that is), inconsistant career high's.

Many young men and women are willing to risk these parts of their intimate life just for a glimpse of stardom, the adorement by others and prestige, yada yada. This is a major issue because 20 year old Russian model, Ruslana Korshunova, committed suicide last Saturday. She plundged to her death from her New York apartment. Have you seen her? She had to have been one of the most beautiful fashion models of this time. She's modeled for line's such as Vera Wang, Chrisian Dior, Marc Jacobs and other's. People, her apartment was on the ninth floor. The police has investigated and has definately ruled it as a suicide, but no note was left by her.

Rumors has it that she had been having some emotional problems and health ailments prior to her suicide. But no one really know's why a person commits suicide. This in light of Heath Ledger's ever present death(god bless his soul). I truely believe that the stress and strain of stardom and being on top is definately not for everyone and we must all outweigh the pro's and the con's of the baggage that come's along with attaining stardom and being famous.

I don't know what might have went through her head to make her want to commit suicide, but my opinion is that her life had became so overwhelming that in her mind, it would be easier to end it all. Do you think that material things, money, power, stardom, glitz, glame, being on the cover of magazine's can make you happy or at piece or even make your life seem worth while?

What's your fav runway walker?

June 29th 2008 04:19
I love to watch all model's, those from different backgrounds, ethnicities, build and social status, strut their stuff on the runway. I have a little bit of modeling experience myself and I know the feeling. Such a great feeling it is, to walk the runway, hundred's of eyes totally on you, the breeze through your hair and yes, the feeling of top-notch designer clothes touching your skin. Oh what a great feeling!

For all of us who LOVE designer clothes, it gives the wearer such a great feeling. Because I can relate and I personally know the feeling of walking a runway, I respect all models that do this as a profession. I especially like watching my favorites to do it up on the runway. To be my favorite, I look for that 'it' facial look, build, culture, etc. I especially look for a particular runway finesse and grace, when walking the runway.

I would have to say, out of all the current, 21st century models currently modeling, Sasha Pivovarova, would have to be my favorite. Her rutty facial features, blond hair and sea blue eyes, very beautiful. But she also 'rip's' the runway when walking down it.

I have a few model pioneer's that I respect and admire for blazing the forefront for all models. They were at the top of their game in their time. My list includes: Brook Shields, Cristie Brinkley, Janice Dickenson, Beverly Johnson, Iman, Tyra Banks and more.

Who would you say is your favorite model?
